Flexible Ceramic Pad heating elements

Flexible ceramic pad heating elements or heaters or FCP’s are one of the most important components & has high relevance in heat treatment. FCP’s get easily covered to the pipe weld joint circumference and other weld geometry of components or structures. Heating elements come in various forms like FCP, FIP, Channel heaters etc.

Ceramic heating elements has high temperature resistance, excellent insulating property, and efficient thermal conductivity, which provides such ceramic heaters with exceptional electrical insulating, thermal shock resistance and thermal conductivity qualities that are most suitable for heat treatment applications. Thanks to its excellent characteristics, the high temperature resistant ceramic beads are widely used as components in the manufacture of ceramic heating pads. These heating pads are extensively used for pre and post weld heat treatment, stress-relieving, and other heat-resistance-environment applications on piping, valves, saddles and pressure vessel C-Seams. FCP’s are manufactured using high grade nickel/chrome (NiCr) 80/20, multi strand wire, and insulated by weaving the wire through sintered high alumina oxide ceramic beads, thus giving the required flexibility and increased high heat transfer capability. The Tails have camlock connectors.

Alumina ceramic beads are manufactured by dry press method and sintered at temperature as high as 1650°C. The production is done under careful selection of high grade alumina (95% Al2 O3).

FCP’s core heating wires are terminated to cold tail by butt weld for reliable and safe working. The Hot and cold sections are clearly separated by one differently colored white bead, while other body & tail beads are mostly pink in color.

FCP’s comprise of following beads :

  1. Main Body Bead
  2. Male End Bead
  3. Female End Bead
  4. Main Body Bead with Hole
  5. Tail Bead (pink)
  6. Tail Bead(white)

For the resistive heating method of stress relieving of welded pipe joints, 80/20 nicrome wires are used to make ceramic heater pads of various sizes and kilowatts, these nicrome wires are insulated using high temperature ceramic elements, these beads are numbered and are supplied as per the requirements.

Though FCP heaters has a working temperature capability of upto 1050°C, mostly for low carbon steel heat treatments take place at temperatures ranging between 550 - 750°C depending on material grade and thickness and as specified in pertinent heat treatment standards or codes, while Solution annealing temperatures are higher. Our FCP’s are available in 30V/60V/80V and in various sizes to suit applications and offer power of 1.35 kW/2,70 kW/3.6 kW @ current rating of 45 Amps respectively.
